The buzzzz...

Hi, welcome to my blog. I am a photographer specializing in wedding photography and family portraiture. I left the commercial photography world several years ago and teamed up with my wife to start a wedding and portrait photography business. I consider myself blessed to do what I love to do, creating beautiful pictures of people, for people! I work in new outdoor locations all the time and I love it. I love creating memorable images in both colour and fine art black and white. We are located in beautiful Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia where we provide photography for all of Vancouver Island as well as The Gulf and San Juan Islands. We are also privileged to provide photography to the greater San Francisco Bay Area for destination weddings as well as anywhere in the US.

Nancy and Jacob's Wedding

A great place to get married that hardly anyone knows about is the location for Jacob and Nancy's marriage ceremony. It was a picture perfect day at the Los Pulgas Water Temple which is approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco near Woodside California. There were over 100 family and friends attending the wedding which was held at the historical water temple, a Roman Renaissance-style structure which marks the spot where the Hetch Hetchy water flows into the Crystal Springs Reservoir which ends up being 100% of the water for the San Francisco Bay area. This really is a special place.

Spring is in the air!!

Spring is such a special time. Here a Mourning Dove sit's on two eggs outside my window. I really don't need that flowerpot anyhow... This picture is another example of very shallow depth of field to get the background out of focus. A telephoto lens get's me in close to the soon to be mom. I applied the sepia color in postproduction.

Family portrait at the beach

I quite enjoy the energy of a family portrait. There was lot’s of energy and laughter as we fought against high winds and a cool breeze at my favorite beach location north of Half Moon Bay. With 11 people there was a lot of action but it all came together for some great family portraits. Because there was not much sun for my portraits I added an off camera flash to fill in the shadows for a more suitable picture. For the sunset picture, the sun was already set so the entire family was exposed with off camera flash and a long exposure to get the colors in the sky.
