The buzzzz...

Hi, welcome to my blog. I am a photographer specializing in wedding photography and family portraiture. I left the commercial photography world several years ago and teamed up with my wife to start a wedding and portrait photography business. I consider myself blessed to do what I love to do, creating beautiful pictures of people, for people! I work in new outdoor locations all the time and I love it. I love creating memorable images in both colour and fine art black and white. We are located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia where we provide photography for all of Vancouver Island as well as The Gulf and San Juan Islands. We are also privileged to provide photography to the greater San Francisco Bay Area for destination weddings as well as anywhere in the US.

Eileen and Gavin's E-Session

Thanks Eileen and Gavin for a great Engagement Session!
I enjoy this time of year as we transition into Spring. Wedding season is upon us and that means Engagement Sessions, Environmental Portraits and Wedding’s.
I’ve been waiting for green grass and flowers to appear with the passing of the rainy season.
Here are a few pictures from last week’s engagement session.

The Winter Months...

A client recently asked me, "what do you take pictures of in the winter, when it's not wedding season?" My answer, "a ton of stuff!!!" There is always landscapes but that is more a hobby for my fine art work. I love people photography, outdoors in a natural environment. So I photograph lots of toddlers, babies and families on location. I enjoy the challenge of getting a great picture of kids on the move. They have a short attention span so being fast with the camera is important. Here are a few shots of a great little guy from last weeks portrait session in the hills above Woodside California.

A Cold Day In The Mountains

Well, to dove tail off the "cold theme" of my prior post, I recently returned from fun in the Sun (and snow) at Odell Lake, Oregon. Family and I got together in some rustic cabins for several days of snow hiking, sledding and lots of hot coco around the wood burning stove.

The pictures here are from one morning just after sunrise when I walked around the lake. One of the highlights for me was when three bald eagles effortlessly flew overhead as they crossed the lake to land atop an ancient pine tree which offered these noble birds a majestic view of the entire lake.

When I got my first film camera in high school it was landscape photography which took me into the great out doors. It's a digital world now but I still enjoy outdoor photography!

A Cold Day At The Beach!

Well folks, the time has come for me to start bloggin'.

I'll start with this weekends "E" session: it was not just another sunny day at the beach engagement session...

This was a cold, cold day but Jennifer, Jiles, their trusty four legged friend Boomer and I made the decision to go for it! And I'm glad we did.

Some cold air and high winds kept us on our toes but we had a lot of fun. So did Boomer: he seemed to always have a dog eared smile!

The sun was not to be seen on this particular day, but from a lighting perspective that was just fine. An overcast sky causes the light to be naturally soft and diffused which is great for picture taking. To add little punch to the picture, I had placed a couple of flashes on light stands just outside the picture frame.

We got some great pictures and here are a few I really like.
